The Cotswold Fayre Team are lucky enough to have a tasting session as part of our fortnightly meeting. Our tasting sessions are a key part of ensuring we know our products and give great customer service; this means we are able to advise our customers on product pairings, combinations and make recommendations.

This time we were transported away from less than nautical Reading and found ourselves beside the Seaside (beside the sea.)

We got the chance to taste Fish Shaped Seaweed Crackers (Pbf22) and Fish Shaped Mor Spiced Cheese Crackers (Pbf25) by The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Co. These imaginatively packaged fish shaped crackers taste great alone as a snack, with a cold drink, with cheese or dipped in houmous. Add your favourite toppings such as cream cheese and salmon for a canapé with a difference.

For the perfect snack The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Co. recommend topping a bowl of the crackers with cheese and bacon, grilling to get the perfect combination of gooey but crispy in places.

The team tried Welshman’s Caviar Toasted Lava Seaweed (Pbf21). The caviar is handpicked, dried and toasted to create a depth of flavour, which makes a fantastic addition to scrambled eggs or added to a stirfry. Another favourite was the beautifully named Mermaid Confetti (Pbf24) a sprinkle of this adds an instant hint of seaside charm.

Stag Bakeries Seaweed Collection offer Water Biscuits (Stg21-23), Butter Shortbread and Oatcakes on which we smothered Cluny Fish Smoked Mackerel Pate (Cny02). Made from the finest cured fish; the team have been expertly curing fish since 1969, their pate is definitely one to try.

Next were pilchards from Cornish waters by The Pilchard Works (Wks21-23). Prepared to unique Breton recipes by the oldest sardine cannery in the world, these sardines are some of the best we’ve tried, and definitely the most uniquely packaged. We love the nostalgic portside prints on the tin, it’s almost a shame to throw them away!

Lastly the team tried Kush Organic Mussel Soup (Msl01). Made with 100% Organic Irish Mussels and fresh vegetables, this soup just needs heating before eating; a simple and tasty way of getting all of your essential trace elements in one meal. Sea-sational!
