There is no doubt that the adult soft drinks market is booming, as consumers look for an alternative to sweet drinks and alcoholic beverages.

This was the starting point for Thor Drinks founder Alistair Scahill, who was completely under-whelmed with the choice of adult soft drinks available.

“I really wanted a drink that was dry to suit an adult palette,” says Alistair.  “A drink that only used natural ingredients and that wasn’t full of sugar.  As an adult, I was also keen to have something that didn’t stand out as a soft drink but looked more like a beer or cider.  So, I created Thor Dry Apple Spritz.”

Thor Dry Apple Spritz comes in three different variants:  Apple, with green tea and gentian extract to give the refreshing bite of a dry cider, Ginger, like a fruity ginger ale balancing crisp apple with a pleasant heat and Mint which captures the natural flavour of garden mint.

Looking at the latest soft drinks trends, we wondered what would Beyonce do?  Apparently the answer is to invest and promote watermelon drinks.

And it’s not just her that is getting excited about watermelon.  Waitrose predicts it to be one of its seven biggest food & drink trends this year and this belief has been backed by a plethora of national media and bloggers.

What a Melon, which launched last year is perfectly placed to be every retailers’ solution to this growing demand.  100% natural, rich in antioxidants and a natural hydrator, What a Melon is Europe’s first watermelon water brand.

Will Rhys, business development manager for What a Melon understands that emerging drinks trends need a little practical support to become a convenience store staple.

“There is no mistaking our packaging as anything other than watermelon,” says Will.  “So, it is easy for shoppers to spot in the chiller.  While best displayed chilled, the products themselves are ambient with a six month production to use by date, so helping retailers with stock management.

“Of course, being on trend doesn’t count for a thing, unless the product tastes great.   Our drink contains 98% watermelon water with a squeeze of lemon, and tastes delicious.”
